0It’s my pleasure to keep presenting interviews with my favorite t-shirt designers and artists. Today we speak with Anthony Brian Villafuerte AKA zerobriant, from Cebu City in the Philippines. We recently featured 10 (Yes, ten!) of his designs in our Doctor Who t-shirt list, and I’ve just come across a few more gems in his portfolio to add. Anthony is an awesome artist whose sci-fi inspired designs have been big hits on tee a day sites and his online stores. Enjoy the interview.
How would you introduce yourself and your art to people who may not familiar with you?
I am Anthony Brian Villafuerte aka zerobriant and I am just an ordinary artist for now but will be a household name in the future. Who creates art for the geeky fandoms who are into the best TV shows, Games, Culture, Movies of our time. Like Doctor Who, Star Wars, Firefly, Sherlock, Game of Thrones, Pokemon, True Blood and more.
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
My very first t-shirt design was processed and printed by myself on 13 white tees for my volleyball team. It was awesome to see it from a sketch to the actual thing. I was hooked when I got paid. 🙂
What inspires your work?
The fans who are so much into the shows I’m referencing it with. My obsession was to see somebody enjoying my design, by wearing it, hanging on the wall and showing it off. My friends would send me pics of themselves and now fans and celebrities are wearing them 🙂
Can you give us any insight into your creative process?
After watching my favorite show, I take a nap. I usually dream about it which may sound really weird but in the middle of my sleep I wake up and grab a pen and paper with the idea in my head. I then start tracing the visuals I saw in my dream. Go to the web for research and do the final works in Photoshop using a graphic tablet. Then show it to the fans for constructive critiques then viola!
Which is your favorite design of your own?
The Stare Down Contest, I made that design in less than 30 minutes after I had my nightmares with the “Silent”. I had to place it on a tee or it would haunt me forever 🙂
Which has been your most successful design to-date?
The “Time Fiction” sold like over 10k in one day.
Who are some of your favorite artists?
The artist who are my friends like my mentor Jimiyo, Winterartwork, David Benton, Dan Fajardo, Megan Lara, Perdita and most of the artist in our group called RxBC and those I admire most are Tyler Stout and Olly Moss.
What are some of your interests outside of art?
When you don’t see new designs at my page I would probably be somewhere around the globe scuba diving, wake-boarding, wall climbing, doing some charity works and of course travelling with my family. I have a wife that shares my interest and a little son who loves to watch his dad being chased by sharks. hehe
What are your vices?
I watch too many movies. Hehe I am a part owner of a Club in our local area, so I have to be there entertaining guest with a few drinks but just moderately and I do not smoke.
Hypothetical dinner party, you and any two people, dead or alive, who do you choose?
I’d love to have a steak with Napoleon Hill and have some cold desserts with Mark Zuckerberg.
Are you currently working on anything we should keep an eye out for?
Yes I have plenty of time with my drawing board lately so expect some new designs with the British TV shows like Supernatural, Sherlock, Doctor Who also Firefly and more! Again thank you for this awesome opportunity and more success on your amazing tee site! Cheeryoh!
