20 Somewhat Silly Superman Shirts
Next week, Batman Vs. Superman hits theaters around the world. This is the (somewhat) long awaited sequel to Man of Steel. Regardless of your opinions of the quality of these new Superman movies (and I am biting my tongue, or rather fingers here) one thing’s for sure, this is a much darker Superman than we’ve known in the past.
There’s nothing wrong with exploring a darker side of Superman. But as I noted in my t-shirt blog about The Justice League, what makes Superman iconic is his colorfulness.
Many were introduced to Superman via the Max Fleischer cartoons, which had an art deco style (blatantly imitated for Batman The Animated Series). The 1950s television show, The Adventures of Superman, may have started in black & white, but within a few years, we saw George Reeves in his red, blue and yellow glory. The series was a weekly adventure story that started and ended with all the characters wearing pearly white smiles.
The Christopher Reeve movies walked the line between serious and camp (especially later in the series). But again we had a bight, fun and friendly Superman. That carried over into the Lois & Clark television series. And Smallville may have had Clark angst-filled at times, but there was some fun to be found in it. Heck, even Superman Returns had a little silliness in its Superman.
To keep the spirit of silliness in Superman alive, I’ve found 20 shirts that show a more lighthearted Man of Steel.
