16 Gene Wilder Shirts to Remember The King of Pure Imagination
There’s no doubt that 2016 will go down in history as a year that we lost too many iconic entertainers. I’ll save you from reviewing the sad list, but this week, comedic actor, Gene Wilder was added to it.
When people ask me what my favorite movie of all-time is, I usually answer The Empire Strikes Back. But in reality, it’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Not sure why I’m so shy admitting this kid’s classic is one that always makes me smile. Most of that, of course, is due to Wilder’s performance. Accept no substitutes! Wider played Wonka as the character was meant to be, somebody who seems deranged, but is completely in control of the situation.
After hearing of his passing, I watched both Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Producers. And I was amazed and how vastly different the characters were. Leo Bloom is a neurotic nerd who freaks out when under pressure (“I’m wet! And I’m hysterical!”).
Between those two extremes he’s played a drunk gunslinger in Blazing Saddles, a reluctant mad scientist in Young Frankenstein, and one half of a great comedy team with Richard Pryor in four funny films.
He was one of the greatest dreamers of the dreams, and he will never be forgotten.
